Hello,
I'm JoNelle Toriseva, published as J.R. Toriseva. I direct the English, Communication and Media Arts division for a small community college.
My MFA is from Mills College. I read poetry for Tin House. Before academia, II worked as a writer in the schools: Alamada County Co-Director California Poets in the Schools, San Francisco WritersCorps, and Literary Arts of Portland, Oregon.
Recently awarded the Patricia Goedicke Prize in Poetry from Cutbank , my k has appeared in, or is forthcoming, from The North American Review, Salt Hill, The Literary Review, The Saranac Review, The Cincinnati Review, Descant, and JACKET, among others, and included in Days I Moved Through Ordinary Sound from City Lights. Barbed Water, chosen by Shane McCrae, will be published in 2016 as the winner of Saudade's annual poetry contest.
I'm interested in coming up with a #AWP17 proposal
-hybrid writing, dichotomies, incosistencies, outlets
-the craft of writing
-writing & mindfulness
-gender
-rurality
-ecopoetry
among others
